A local repair business can work differently from a retail service counter. Depending on the problem, the best option may be local pickup and return, help at your home, or remote support for issues that do not require the computer on my workbench.
Call or text with a description of the problem. I can usually tell you the best next step and whether the computer needs hands-on diagnosis.
Depending on the issue, I can arrange local pickup, troubleshoot on-site, or use remote support when the computer and internet connection are still usable.
I will explain what I found, what the repair would accomplish, and whether spending the money makes sense before moving forward.
Not every slow or broken computer needs to be replaced, and not every old computer deserves another expensive repair. The right answer depends on the age of the system, the failed part, available upgrades, software support, and what you actually need the computer to do.
That is the standard I try to use when recommending a repair. Sometimes a good SSD upgrade or replacement component can add useful life to a computer. Other times, the better decision is to save the data and put the repair money toward a newer system. I would rather explain that before you spend money than sell an upgrade that does not solve the real problem.

A local desktop had become painfully slow during basic startup and normal use. The older hard drive was the bottleneck, so it was replaced with a 1TB SSD. The result was a significant improvement in everyday performance without replacing the entire computer.
A Hoschton gaming desktop would no longer boot correctly and was stopping during memory initialization. Hardware testing narrowed down the problem, the BIOS was updated, the memory was reinstalled and tested, and the system was able to boot back to Windows normally.

No. Depending on the problem, I can arrange local pickup and return, troubleshoot at your home, or handle some issues remotely. Call or text first and I can tell you which approach makes the most sense.
Often, yes. Slow performance can come from an older hard drive, limited memory, software problems, malware, a nearly full drive, or simply aging hardware. I prefer to identify the cause before recommending an upgrade.
Sometimes. If the storage device can still be accessed, I may be able to recover or migrate the data. A physically failed drive may need a specialized recovery company instead. See how I handle data recovery.
Yes. If the repair cost does not make sense for the age or condition of the computer, I will say so and can help you figure out a practical replacement path.
Yes. I troubleshoot gaming desktops, replace and upgrade components, and build custom PCs. See custom-built vs. store-bought computers.
